To introduce myself: I have been working in the family firm since 1982. My father started the firm in 1966, although the business was well established prior to his take over from P. L. Pick & Co. of the same address.
Following my schooling years, I wished to follow my father in his successful business and joined him in 1982. Since then I have strived to seek knowledge and information of this complex business. There are many Laws of the Land you need to know being in this field – from Accommodation Agencies Act to Matrimonial Homes Act and of course all the Health and Safety Legislation related to renting property.
I decided to find out more on Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO s), as in my early years, I could see that Swansea City Council was taking a tough stance on such accommodation, and now indeed with the introduction of the 2004 Housing Act, making a new clear definition of a House in Multiple Occupation. This stood me in good stead when dealing with such type of property.
I have been and still am consulted on this topic, hopefully giving general advice to landlord or would be landlords – Although I always say they should consult your Local Authority for their HMO Policy.
